Each country has its own traditions. Customs are especially relevant when it arrives in life celebrations such as weddings.

In Mexico, wedding traditions can incorporate various items. In some towns of northern Mexico, there is the ritual of presenting a ring called "promise" that occurs as the engagement ring.

The bridegroom often gives the bride thirteen coins gold. The madrina de arras contains the thirteen coins that the bridegroom gives to the bride. Coins arras was a Roman custom of separating gold or silver, one-half is kept by the woman and the other half by the man, as a wedding vow.
The groom gives the coins to the bride as a symbol of his unquestionable trust and confidence. He agrees that he places all his property under her care for safe keeping. Acceptance by the bride means taking that trust unconditionally with total dedication and prudence.


Aside from the church preparations, the whole family displays concerned with preparing the wedding. The six months before the wedding leaves the couple time to hold the location for their reception or dance. In ancient times, weddings were held in the yard or the house of the bride.

The groom traveled by horse to the home of the bride and after the wedding ceremony, he took his wife in a palanquin (cart) to his parents' home to live. The bride and groom wore formal court costumes for the wedding ceremony. Ordinary people were allowed to wear stylish clothes on the day of their marriage.

Today, the bride can buy a dress or arrange with a seamstress or a specialist for a custom wedding dress. Brides in times events planned their wedding dress with their mothers, who would then do the patching.

For men, the guayabera shirt is often consumed. This shirt, often called a Mexican wedding shirt and has been around for the last 200 years. This shirt has a loose style, and, therefore, can be worn by all shapes and sizes. These net, cool shirts are light, and flattering to any body shape. Flax traditional Guayaberas are still the most familiar seaside wedding shirts because of their convenience, form, and freshness.

Other wedding traditions incorporate hand torches, which are used for lighting the passage through the house of the groom to the bride's house the night before the wedding. Traditionally, the groom's parents would provide a wedding box packed with gifts for the family of the bride.
Wedding ducks are a symbol for a long and happy marriage. Cranes are a symbol of long life and can be represented by the woman's frame.

Traditional foods are utilized for weddings that incorporate fresh rice, grains, tortilla meals, using cock and cow. Sangria is a cold beverage made from red or white wine mixed with kirsch, sugar, nut juice and shimmering water.

To top it all, the wedding cake is usually a fruitcake soaked in rum.
